Reserve & Freshjive present HOOKERS ON VAN BUREN, photography by Lokey
On Aug. 23 Reserve store and gallery presents ”Hookers on Van Buren.” A photographic journal of the nightwalkers of Phoenix Arizona’s Van Buren Street, shot by Phoenix native Lokey. Captured on black and white film through the lens of his Holga, Lokey has documented the desperation, struggle and afflictions of the world’s oldest profession.
Lokey Bio
Lokey was born and raised in Texas in the early 70's. He received his degree in photography from the Art Institute of Houston in 1998 in conjunction with The School of Photographic Studies in Prague in the Czech Republic. After moving to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1998 he worked as a freelance commercial photographer, providing photos for local and national bands, individual musicians, models, and club openings in Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angeles and parts of Mexico. Lokey has been a staff photographer for publications in the Czech Republic, Houston and Phoenix.
Lokey has shown extensively throughout Arizona, Texas and internationally in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His latest show features his "Hookers on Van Buren" series which is a culmination of five years of documenting the prostitutes of Phoenix.
